Independent Reading

About twice a quarter, we will be reading a new independent reading novel. For one of the two, I will be assigning a genre for the students to stick to; but for the second novel, they will have the choice.

For these novels, the students will have a 'book report' type project to complete. These will be uploaded here for your convenience. They may be completed using technology (by adding to the document posted here) or by  writing on the document itself (which they receive a copy of in class).

Each of these will be worth 30 points and the rubric will be given along with the template in class. It is also uploaded here for your convenience. They change slightly with each assignment as each report may require something different.

For all of them, a rubric will be sent home when the project is assigned, and must be signed by a parent and returned by the date indicated on the rubric. This is to ensure constant communication with parents at home regarding what the students should be working on.

First Reading Selection: Science Fiction/Fantasy

We have talked about both of these genres and the similarities between them. The students are to choose a novel in one of these genres. This project is creating a bookmark based on info in the novel. The report is due on September 24.

Second Reading Selection: Student Choice

Students can choose a book for this report. The report this time is a 'facebook' book report. They are creating a facebook page for their book. There are some slight changes in the requirements of this, so the rubric is slightly different. This report is due on November 5.
