The Outsiders

Picture
The Outsiders is one of the most-liked novels read in 7th grade. It is written by S.E. Hinton, who was 16 at the time she wrote this novel. The fact that it was written by a teenage girl is something most peope forget as they read through the novel. It is also important to know that she wrote this book in response to situations she noticed as a teenager growing up in Oklahoma. While none of the characters are to represent specific people, they are meant to replicate situations she encountered. Ponypoy, the main character in the novel, was written to SOMEWHAT represent the author, although not ALL of his actions are directly from her life.
